Walter Driver is a Member of the Board of Directors at Equifax since November 2007.
Previously, Walter was Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer at King & Spalding LLP. Walter focused on strategic issues, firm growth, cross-office capabilities and client relationships. Walter joined King & Spalding in 1970 and
became a partner in 1976. Walter served 8 years in the 1990’s as Chairman of the governing Policy Committee and has been Managing Partner or Chairman since 1999.
Walter is a regular speaker on law firm leadership and on the relationships between inside counsel and outside law firms. Walter’s practice has focused on financing transactions, and he chaired that practice area within the firm. Walter represented large groups of money center banks in complex structuring, negotiating and restructuring of transactions exceeding $1 billion of real estate related liabilities. Walter acted as the principal U.S. lawyer representing Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in the largest and most complex bank fraud in U.S. history, involving billions of dollars in finance to Iraq. Walter led the client through Congressional committee investigations and hearings, multiple civil litigation cases, successfully resolved a protracted Federal Reserve inquiry and achieved superior economic recoveries, including $400 million from the United States government. Walter has been involved with many aspects of representation of financial institutions, including structured transactions, real estate finance, work-out and bankruptcy and banking investigations. Walter has advised institutional investors in highly leveraged and tax sensitive transactions, including complex cross-border financings. Walter represents large U.S. banks and international banks as well as large non-bank financial corporations.
Walter coordinated King & Spalding’s legal work for SunTrust Banks, Inc.
Walter is a Member of the Board of Directors at Total Systems Services, Inc. and currently serves on the compensation committee.
Walter is Vice President and a Member of the Executive Committee of the United States Golf Association, having previously served as Treasurer and General Counsel.
Walter chaired the Legal Division of the Atlanta United Way and served as a member of the Executive Cabinet of the United Way.
Walter serves or has served as a Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committees of several civic organizations, including The Commerce Club, Central Atlanta Progress, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, The Children’s Museum of Atlanta and the Georgia State Golf Association.
