Serial Entrepreneur and angel investor Steve Gottlieb is the Founder and CEO of Shindig, a patented new video chat technology that enables large-scale interactive events. Shindig participants can see and be seen by one another in a shared environment accommodating thousands. They can move freely in and out of conversations with whomever they chose,
and at the same time enjoy a talk, presentation or interview with their favorite author, artist, speaker or personality. Participants can also be called on to share the stage with presenters to ask them questions “face-to-face” in front of the entire gathering. Still in Beta, hundreds of prominent hosts (including Hugh Howey, Michael Pollan, TEDx, Big Daddy Kane, David Houle, and Guy Kawasaki) have already embraced Shindig for their online events. With Shindig, Gottlieb aims to redefine the state of the art of online engagement in a multitude of verticals from online promotional events, conferences, nightclubs, business meetings, games and distance learning.
Prior to Shindig, Gottlieb was the founder of TVT Records, one of the largest and most successful independent record labels in US history. Over the course of its 25 year history the label released over 25 Gold, Platinum and Multi Platinum albums. Gottlieb discovered and spearheaded the careers of such artists as Nine Inch Nails, Ja Rule, Lil Jon, Pitbull, Sevendust, Brian Jonestown Massacre and KMFDM among many others. Significant releases on the label also included the Televisions Greatest Hits series, Snoop Dogg and Tha Eastsidaz, XTC, Ambulance LTD, Guided by Voices, Modern English, Jusk Jack, Default, The Connells, Underworld, Gil Scott Heron, Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes and a large number of well known movie and TV soundtracks.
Gottlieb has been recognized as a pioneer in digital exploitation of music. He appeared before the House Judiciary Committee on Digital Music Rights and has been a pioneering dealmaker providing hit content to many music startups initially denied access to music from the Majors. Under Gottlieb’s leadership TVT was the first label to make its repertoire freely available for download in 2000. TVT was also the first label to settle with Napster and authorize their distribution of TVT copyrights. TVT was one of the first labels to authorize subscription services Rhapsody, emusic and others.
Gottlieb was a founding member of A2IM the association of American Independent labels.
