Dr. Robert E. Glasgow is the Professor and Interim Chair of Department of Surgery at University of Utah Health. He previously worked as an Associate Professor (Clinician Scholar) at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Section Chief of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery for the Division of General
Surgery, and Vice Chairman of Clinical Operations and Quality for the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Glasgow completed a General Surgery Residency and Research Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco then a Fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Glasgow's clinical and research focus is in the area of gastrointestinal surgery with a special emphasis on minimally invasive techniques in the management of gastroesophageal and hepatopancreatobiliary disorders. Dr. Glasgow specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and biliary tree. He is also an expert in the minimally invasive treatment of hernia disease, including abdominal wall and groin hernias as well as hiatal hernias.
As his research and administrative interests are in the area of optimization of surgical quality and outcomes, Dr. Glasgow directs the Department of Surgery participation in the American College of Surgeons' National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. In this role, he helps to oversee quality improvment projects within the Department of Surgery with the goal of maintaining the University of Utah at the highest level of surgical care in the country.
