Mike founded Fenix International Inc., a venture-backed renewable energy company based in San Francisco, California with offices in East Africa. Fenix's mission is to deliver life-changing, affordable renewable energy and consumer financing to the 1.3 billion people who live without power in emerging markets. Fenix has forged strategic
partnerships with global Mobile Network Operators such as MTN Group, Orange and Vodafone to reach rural off-grid areas and empower access to wireless communications and clean LED lighting for small businesses and households.
A serial entrepreneur, Mike previously founded Vestal Design, an award-winning design firm, and B.MINIMA, an eco-solutions company. He has also lecturer of design thinking and engineering at Stanford as well as entrepreneurship at Yale. Mike consulted for Apple on climate change and environmental toxins and worked with Al Gore on the “Inconvenient Truth” presentation.
Mike a recipient of the BusinessWeek IDEA Award, Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award, the EPA’s People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award and was named a Rockefeller Foundation Innovator. Mike earned both his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
