Chase Spurlock, PhD is Co-Founder and CEO of Decode Health. Decode Health is his second startup focused on the use of machine learning approaches to predict disease outcomes. His work has led to AI tools that enable care teams to find and fix chronic and infectious disease risk faster. These technologies have ranged from patented blood-based,
genomic approaches to population-level studies capable of tracking hundreds of thousands of patient journeys in real time. Today, Decode Health serves as an outsourced innovation team for industry leading diagnostic, pharma and AI-driven personalized healthcare companies. The Decode team brings more than a decade of experience integrating large datasets with machine learning methods to address data challenges involving disease risk.
Dr. Spurlock’s work in genomics and data science has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAID) and has been featured in peer-reviewed journals and widely published in trade journals and healthcare media outlets. He is also an industry innovator listed on the Nashville Business Journal ’40 under 40’ list, Nashville Medical News InCharge, and was named Entrepreneur of the Year in the Nashville Business Journal's 2021 Health Care Innovation Awards. Complementing his work at Decode Health, he is a founding member of the healthcare advisory board for DataRobot, a leading Boston-based AI company.
Dr. Spurlock is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The University of the South and received his PhD from Vanderbilt in microbiology and immunology. Dr. Spurlock is an adjunct professor of medicine at Vanderbilt and adjunct professor of healthcare administration at NYU. Outside of work, he currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee and the leadership board of Siloam Health. He is also an active supporter of The Aspen Institute and is a member of the Order of St. John.
