Xiaodong joined NEA in 2005 to focus on investments in the rapidly growing China markets. In December 2005, he launched New Enterprise Associates (Beijing) Ltd. and opened its Beijing and Shanghai offices. Xiaodong currently helps manage and support China related investment activities. Xiaodong's areas of interest include technology, consumer,
healthcare and growth equity opportunities. Xiaodong is currently on the board of Uni-Power Group, LianLian Pay, Velo International, Shenghui Lighting, Novast Pharmaceuticals, NexChem Pharmaceuticals, HYGEIA Medical Services, New Journey Hospital Group, and PineTree Senior Care. In addition, Xiaodong has worked closely with CITIC Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Shanghai Pharma), Redbaby (acquired by SUNING), Baihe.com, LineKong, Cathay Biotech, and Availink. Xiaodong was recently honored by Entrepreneur magazine in China as one of China’s most influential venture capitalists under age 40.
Prior to joining NEA, Xiaodong worked at ONStor, a storage networking start-up in marketing and business development and at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center on multimodal recognition. He was also a consultant to Hitachi on RFID market strategy. Xiaodong received a Master's degree from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree from Nanjing University in China. He was a doctoral candidate in computer science at University of California, Berkeley as a United Nations Fellow and a Mayfield Fellow.
