John Nelson, Ph.D. joined UTAC in October 2012 with more than 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. He was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ON Semiconductor from 2007 to 2012 where he oversaw the company's world-wide manufacturing, quality, world-class supply chain, and information technology
operations, and for a period also served as Chief Environmental Officer. Under his leadership, the company doubled its revenues to US$3 billion and successfully streamlined its global manufacturing operations, including consolidating numerous front-end and back-end facilities and integrating nine corporate acquisitions which involved complicated broad-scope production transfers. Prior to joining ON Semiconductor, Dr. Nelson was Chief Executive Officer of 1st Silicon, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations, including worldwide manufacturing, sales, marketing and product development. From 1990 to 2002, Dr. Nelson served in several executive positions with General Instrument/General Semiconductor, including as Chief Operations Officer and President of the company's Asia-Pacific operation. Dr. Nelson's industry experience also includes key positions at Unitrode, Fairchild Semiconductor and Analog Devices. He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and a PhD in physics from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland.
