William Bailey is Professor Emeritus of Medicine in the Lung Health Center and Eminent Scholar Chair in Pulmonary Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. William has been on the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 1973 and has been Professor of Medicine since 1979. William founded The Lung Health Center in 1984.
William has practiced medicine, taught, performed research, and been involved in administrative endeavors for his entire career.
William has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Thoracic Society and on the Council of the National, Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
In addition, William has been a Member of many editorial review boards of peer-reviewed journals and has served as a frequent scientific reviewer of both scientific articles and peer-reviewed research. William has published more than 200 articles and has been the recipient of many grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health and other sources. William currently holds the Eminent Scholar Chair in Pulmonary Disease.
William is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease, having received certified specialty training in these disciplines at Tulane University Medical Center and Charity Hospital of Louisiana.
William earned his M.D. degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans.
