Will is probably what a lot of people would consider a “real townie.” He was born and raised within the 49 square miles of the City by the Bay, did all his schooling here, held all his jobs here, considers a drive to Silicon Valley a “road trip,” and doesn’t want to know what it would be like to leave his heart in San Francisco because “that would
be a physiological impossibility.”
He claims to be hardened by the “mean streets of North Beach,” which means he’s developed patience for finding street parking, stamina for pizza-eating contests, and working a clutch on a steep hill without needing the handbrake.
Despite having lived his whole life in this hilly city, he still needs to catch his breath while walking up California Street before stepping through the front doors of GS&P. He is sometimes asked, “After 10-plus years of working here, you still aren’t accustomed to this hill?” And his answer is, “If I ever win the Lottery, I’m putting in an escalator."
