Warner Philips is an independent cleantech entrepreneur and investor. In 2002, Warner co-founded Tendris, an initiator, operator and investor into cleantech start-ups: together with his partners he has started 5 companies since 2002, all focused on the cleantech consumer, proving that sustainable lifestyles are attractive, rewarding and improve the
quality of life on earth for all, a paradigm many believed to be impossible at the time. Such companies included the renewable energy retailer Durion (later Oxxio, sold to Centrica), carbon neutral credit card affinity program Climacount and LED lighting pioneer Lemnis. In 2006, Warner moved from Amsterdam, Netherlands to San Francisco, CA to grow the Tendris businesses. All of these consumer-centric companies have gone international and were thriving when Warner left Tendris Group in 2012.
Prior to Tendris, Warner led a strategic turnaround in 2001-2002 of Amsterdam-based apparel group Secon. From 1996-2001 Warner worked for NeSBIC, the independently run venture capital and private equity group that was part of Fortis bank: Warner made investments in all industries (from food to fashion, from trade to services) and all development stages, lastly serving on the board of Refresco, a leading European private label manufacturer of soft drinks and fruit juices. Warner also serves several non-profits, such as Empowered by Light and the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovations Institute, and is an advisor to the Netherlands government regarding cleantech private-public partnerships through Orange Goes Green.
