Long, long ago I fell in love with writing software.
It was amazing to be unfettered and creative, stretching to meet the customer and solve a problem while developing a deeply satisfying skill… until I let process-heavy, lumbering organizations convince me that I was a cog, a commodity.
On a mission to bring the entrepreneurial impulse
back to my corner of the industry, I became an Agilist in project manager’s clothing - encouraging and empowering teams, striving to allow only the minimally viable bureaucracy to distract them from their ultimate goal: writing software.
I gave myself entirely to the Agile values. Serving as Scrum master, I took earnestly to learning; attending conferences and meetups, reading books and blogs. Soon I was coaching multiple teams, facilitating collaboration and teaching Agile. I can not imagine any better occupation.
As high as I prize learning, however, my truest passion comes from giving back.
I began speaking right after my first Scrum event - first at work and in local meetups, later for larger groups. I started writing even earlier, always with the intent on passing on what I’d learned. Podcasting and volunteering are similar extensions of my impulse to help others, and I’m always looking for opportunities to invite others to connect. I can not imagine any better life.
When I'm at my best, I model Agile values and attend to people's needs.
