Tom Bates is a Partner of 4D Global Energy Advisors. Prior to joining 4D Global Energy Advisors he was a Managing Director (2001 - 2010) and then Senior Advisor (2010 - 2015) at US-based private equity firm Lime Rock Partners. Before Lime Rock, Tom served as President of the Discovery Group for Baker Hughes from 1998 to 2000 where he was
responsible for the integration of Western Atlas into Baker Hughes. Earlier, he was President and CEO of Weatherford Enterra before its acquisition by EVI in 1998, and before that he spent 15 years with Schlumberger, both in domestic and international locations, including five years as President of the Anadrill division. Tom began his career with Shell Oil Company.
Tom has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where he also obtained his undergraduate degree.
Tom speaks English and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of portfolio company Independence Contract Drilling Inc.
