Back in 1995, having only used the internet for a few months, I naively sent an email to a millionaire. Much to my surprise, the millionaire replied.
I expected to hear from a secretary, if anyone at all. I was working on a piece for my college paper on the Father of Shareware, Jim Knopf. I got most of what
I needed from his web site, but I had a few more questions. I didn't have a phone number and snail mail would have taken too long. I was an email newbie, but it was worth a shot.
The answer came a few hours after I sent the message. It said something to the effect, "Sorry that it took so long to respond. I was outside playing with a grandchild."
I wish I still had that email. It was the inspiration for my career. The internet meant anyone could get in contact with anyone else, easily, inexpensively and quickly. People would be likely to participate because of the low barrier to entry. As I soon learned by way of making a few web pages, this technology allowed communication to scale easily. I was hooked.
My goal is to use this tool to enhance, enable and scale communication of all types. After over a decade working in the news media industry, I have taken the entrepreneurial plunge. I am now co-founder of a mobile technologies company - a direct continuation of my mission. Our focus is on creating affordable mobile solutions for organizations of all sizes.
