A hands-on programme maker, Tim Carter became CEO in 2009, having been Director of Programmes since 2008. He began his career at Twenty Twenty in the mid-nineties developing and making history series including Ian Hislop's landmark history series, Canterbury Tales and School Rules for Channel 4. After a brief break at the BBC running a new
digital production unit for BBC Arts, he returned to Twenty Twenty in 2001 to develop, produce and direct ITV's prime-time factual hit, the BAFTA nominated Lads Army and Bad Lads Army, and The Guantanamo Guidebook, a globally controversial experiment in torture.
Over the past decade, Tim has produced a raft of BAFTA, RTS and Emmy winning shows for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Today, he oversees much of Twenty Twenty's output including Channel 4's First Dates, and is Executive Producer of all Gareth Malone series, including The Choir.
