Mr. Broom is the founder of Strategic Timber and has primary responsibility for strategic direction, development of investment opportunities and corporate operations. He has been in the timberland investment business since 1992.
From 1997-2000, Mr. Broom was responsible for investment analysis of property acquisitions, identification and
negotiation of international acquisitions and for building and supervising an internal operations team of forest professionals to manage and operate STT’s more than 180,000 hectare timberland portfolio. This operations team included local field and support personnel who carried out silvicultural activities and such administrative tasks as timber sales tracking and lease management.
Prior to Strategic Timber, Mr. Broom was a Director at UBS/RII and served on the Management and Investment Committees. He played a leading role in the identification, negotiation, structure and management of Latin American investments and served as the portfolio manager of the Chilean joint venture with an international forest products company.
Formerly a Career Army Officer, Mr. Broom served as Commander of an artillery battery in the 10th Mountain Division and his last assignment was as a Comptroller in the Army Intelligence and Security Command. Mr. Broom is a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Airborne and Ranger Schools. He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts and an M.B.A. from Syracuse University.
