After earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from Drake University, Tom was chosen to be a part of the First Scholar Program at First Chicago NBD Bank (now JP Morgan). While working full-time, he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago’s
Booth School of Business with a concentration in finance and accounting.
Tom joined a prominent Chicago based family office, working in a CIO function. From there, he joined Lehman Brothers Private Wealth Management, alongside Mike Covey and Mark Wiktor. He and his business partners have since grown their private wealth practice into one of the most prominent in the country. As of June 2017, Tom transitioned to Merrill Private Wealth Management.
As a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch, Tom meets the growing needs of his clientele through the firm’s widespread product and service offerings. Tom and his team focus on advising high net worth clients and other teams on alternative investments, as well as working with large family offices. In 2014, Thomas Kane was named as one of the Top 400 Financial Advisors in the country by the Financial Times. He was also named one of the Top 40 Advisors under 40 in the country by On Wall Street from 2009 until 2016, and was recognized in Forbes "Best-in-State Wealth Advisors" list in 2019. Outside of the office, Thomas Kane serves as President of Friends of the IDF, an organization dedicated to the men and women serving in the Israel Defense Forces, wounded veterans, and the families of fallen soldiers, as well as other functions for civic and charitable organizations.
