In 2008, Tamara Cooksey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Sonoma State University. She found her niche in employee management, hiring and developing company culture, she moved towards a role in people operations where she could follow her hires and help them excel through the course of their careers at her company. Her recent position as Vice President of People Operations at a performance management company, which she was a founding member of, gave her invaluable experience as well. Given that Cooksey helped in building the business from the ground up, she wore many different hats to ensure the company’s success.
With her team, Tamara Cooksey developed and drove the company’s key people and culture programs, including diversity and inclusion, goal setting and performance management. Cooksey also worked on developing a leadership development program for managers, which included training on topics such as feedback, coaching, and conflict resolution. She rolled out career leveling, mapping, and titling, managed hiring targets, and benefits, as well as took on day-to-day tasks, like employee inquiries. Cooksey frequently reported employees Key Performance Indicators to the board of directors in order to benefit the business.
These skills now help her immensely in her new role as the Head of People Operations for Grabr Inc. With her background working in tech startups, she now helps Grabr’s staff grow alongside the company in a sustainable format. At Grabr, Tamara’s main focus is to create a firm company culture for the employees, while also preparing the staff for long-term success with the company. She wants her employees to continue to grow in order to unlock their full potential.
Tamara Cooksey believes in continuous development. She now holds the MAP Leadership Training certificate and is currently in the process of becoming a certified Senior Progressional Human Resources holder. These two certificates showcase her understanding of human resource strategies and the level of professionalism she has.
In her spare time, Tamara Cooksey enjoys traveling. She loves being able to explore new areas and experience different cultures. Tamara is also passionate about health and wellness. She believes that in taking a more active lifestyle, you also invest in your career outlook. After all, healthy people are happy people.
