Steven Ma [b.1981] is an Architect and He is the founder of Xuberance [2010]. His 3D printed work rests on the potentialities of digital tools distanced from any attempt at optimization in favor of baroque, excessive & abundant aesthetics. His work is included in the 9th ArchiLab: Naturalizing Architecture [Orleans, France]. Steven Ma has
worked as a design architect for the world well-known Viennese Architecture Firm Coop-himmelb(L)au and taught at The University of Applied Arts, Vienna, Institute of Architecture [2008-2013]. He is living in Shanghai/ Hong Kong where he was a visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong, Department of Architecture and Residency Designer at Aalto Digital Design Laboratory [ADD]. His on-going doctoral research on “Sustainability Aesthetics – Making the Invisible Visible” is advised by Wolf D.Prix. Ma holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) where he won the best overall graduate thesis award and the AIA Henry Adams Medal Award of the Year 2008. He has conducted workshops worldwide including AA Summer School Shanghai HKU, Tsinghua Architecture Summer School Parametric Design Workshop, Tongji Summer School Digital Design Workshop & Xuberance Workshops Asia-Tour 2014 Digital Sculpturism.
