Dr. Simon Maltais is an active cardiac surgeon in the United States, and an internationally recognized leader in the field of heart transplantation, mechanical heart devices, and minimally invasive and robotically-assisted cardiac interventions. At the age of 35, he was among the youngest promoted as an associate professor at a nationally recognized institution. Before reaching 40, Dr. Maltais had already led two world-renowned programs in his specialty and had pioneered multiple novel approaches for advanced cardiac surgery interventions, including less invasive left ventricular device implantation. He is a frequent keynote speaker, has published more than 165 articles and has contributed to numerous books. Since he worked in two different countries and health systems, Dr. Maltais has a unique perspective on the delivery of care and its inherent challenges for healthcare workers.
After working extensively in both the United States and Canada health systems, Dr. Maltais gained expertise as a health and life balance advocate through the Health Coach Institute. During the completion of his holistic health and wellness training, Dr. Maltais wrote a non-fiction book entitled Healthcare Anonymous: Put Yourself First to Avoid Anxiety, Addiction, and Burnout. The book offers a map for healthcare workers to understand their mental struggles and start a process of recovery.
