Sheldon Retchin joined VCU Health System as CEO.Retchin has served as a director of Gentiva and a member of the Clinical Quality Committee of the Board of Directors since September 2009 and as a member of the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors since May 2012.
Since 2003, Retchin has served as the chief
executive officer of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia, and as vice president for health sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System is a large academic health center in Central Virginia and delivers primary and tertiary health care to the mid-atlantic region. Retchin is a professor in the departments of internal medicine, gerontology and health administration and is a national expert in health policy and health care delivery, with special expertise on the costs, quality and alternative financing strategies for the Medicare program.
He has over 80 publications on the costs and quality of care and has had appointments on numerous national panels regarding health care and the health professional workforce.
