Sharon Bush is an accomplished philanthropist and humanitarian who has spent nearly her whole life helping to bring essential resources to impoverished women, children and families around the world. In addition to being an advocate for women and children, she is also actively involved in raising awareness for environmental causes. Her altruism and
business acumen have had a powerful effect on the causes and individuals that she supports. Many global organizations have recognized her humanitarian efforts with awards and accolades. Her passion for helping others motivates her every day to improve the living conditions of children and their families around the world.
Her current role at the Cristo Rey Network as the Director of Public Relations and Fundraising has allowed her once again to use her life and business experience to help bring valuable resources to children from impoverished areas. The Cristo Rey Network is comprised of 35 Catholic college preparatory schools in 22 states and focuses on providing a rigorous education to 12,000 students. The schools offer a college preparatory curriculum combined with a four-year Corporate Work Study Program to students. This unique approach to education helps mold the students into well-rounded, global citizens.
While Sharon Bush devotes much of her time and energy to charitable organizations, her philanthropic efforts stem from her love and devotion to her three accomplished children. Having raised her daughters Lauren Bush Lauren, Ashley Bush, and her son Pierce Bush with an awareness on a global level and an appreciation for helping others, Sharon is proud of the compassionate individuals they grew into as adults. Taking their mother’s guiding example to heart, all three of Sharon Bush’s children have made a positive impact on the world: her daughter Lauren is CEO and co-founder of The FEED Foundation, which has made great strides toward eliminating world hunger with 90 million meals provided to hungry children. Her daughter Ashley is a filmmaker who makes time to tutor women at safe houses to help them earn their GED degree. Sharon’s son Pierce is CEO of the Texas chapter of the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ nonprofit.
Sharon Bush has served as a board member for several charitable organizations during her time as a philanthropist. She has served on both the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) and the UN Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA), among many others. From local education initiatives such as KIPP to global initiatives like UNWFPA, Sharon strives to improve the living conditions of women, children and families everywhere by helping them gain access to essential necessities to help not only live but thrive.
Among the many awards she has received for her work, Sharon Bush is most proud of her 2001 Mother Hale Award for Mothers Who Make A Difference, which she received with Jane Seymour and Nancy Kerrigan. This award recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond to help children from impoverished areas or that come from limited means. The impressive accomplishments of Sharon’s three children are a testament to how fitting this award was for Sharon.
