Sérgio Simões has a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a Master degree in Engineering Sciences and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics. He has a position as assistant professor at Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra – Portugal, he is Member of the Board and Vice-president for business and product development of Bluepharma (a Pharmaceutical
Company located in Portugal) and a research member at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra. His research activity has been focused on the development of targeted nanocarriers for drug and nucleic acid delivery aiming at their application for gene therapy. He has published more than 70 SCI journal papers, 7 book chapters, 5 patents and he is the author/co-author of 235 presentations in international conferences and workshops. Over the last years, he has conducted several research projects in the field of Biotechnology and gained a significant expertise on the development, industrial transfer and manufacturing of pharmaceutical dosage forms for the European and US market. Co-founder and share-holder of companies operating in the field of Pharmaceutics/drug development.
