Sam Wyly was born in Louisiana and raised in a small town. After getting his MBA from the University of Michigan, he went to Air Force boot camp near San Antonio, Texas. Next, he moved to Dallas, Texas to work as a salesman for IBM.
In 1968, at only 28 years old, Sam started his first business venture, the University Computing Company, on the
campus of Southern Methodist University. With only $1000 and an idea to provide computing services to universities, oil companies, and military contractors, Sam had created his first company.
The company went public in 1968 which made Sam Wyly Businessman a millionaire. This would be the first of six companies Wyly nurtured to valuations over one billion dollars.
