Sam Jain is the Founder and Executive Chairman at Fareportal and CheapOair.
After several successful years developing innovative technologies and incorporating process efficiencies in the wholesale airfare management business, Sam acquired Travelong – a regional corporate travel agency founded in Morristown, New Jersey in 1976. Now, with the
beginnings of a powerful suite of brands and e-commerce becoming main stream, Sam founded Fareportal in 2002. Fareportal’s goal was to build an online consumer interface for retail travel agents. The technology of Fareportal was instrumental in helping agencies manage and launch end-to-end retail e-commerce travel stores.
In 2006, Sam noticed that none of the key online travel agencies featured a phone number on their websites or offered the personalized service of a trained travel agent. Most online travel agencies started off as a technology company that happened to sell air travel. Sam, with years of travel agency and technology experience, had an idea – a model where customers could transact online and book through a trained and certified travel agent, thereby bridging the gap between an OTA and a Traditional Travel Agency. Drawing on his previous travel experience and relationships with 100s of US and International airlines, Sam launched CheapOair – a hybrid travel company dedicated to bringing a superior flight and trip booking experience either online or by a trained travel agent. With CheapOair, customers have multiple booking options and access to deals directly sourced from over 450 airlines. CheapOair and OneTravel are the only Top Travel agencies with a prominent phone number on every web page.
Fareportal’s constant innovation allows partner airlines to benefit from selling ancillaries directly on the booking path thereby further optimizing their revenues and making them more predictable. This also helps them in streamlining their airport operations, having less people wait in line to pay for preferred seats and bags. Over the years, Sam has acquired a number of brands, all dedicated to making travel effortless, affordable, and enjoyable to customers – including the iconic OneTravel brand. Sam’s companies have won numerous awards from airlines, mobile media companies, travel publications, and global distribution systems.
Sam lives in Long island with his wife and two children. He actively participates in giving back to the community through his involvement in organizations like the Covenant House, UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, City Meals on Wheels, and more.
