Robert Middaugh is a public relations and strategic communications professional from Texas. He has public affairs experience at the highest levels of state and federal government, including work in the national security, information technology and law enforcement fields. Outside of government, Robert has worked in the music industry, and also has
experience writing and reporting for a daily newspaper in his hometown.
Most recently, Robert was deputy press secretary and spokesman for the Office of the New York Attorney General. He served as the primary press contact for eight media markets, and was responsible for staffing the attorney general at all media availabilities in upstate New York.
In January 2012, he was appointed by the White House to serve as a spokesperson for the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy. His portfolio included nuclear nonproliferation and counterterrorism; cyber security; acquisition and project management; and all other civilian mission support functions related to the U.S. nuclear weapons program.
Prior to his time at the Department of Energy, he worked with the press offices of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and U.S. Rep. Candice Miller, was a contributing writer for the North Texas Daily, and was an assistant for the Dallas-based label, Kirtland Records.
Robert attended the University of North Texas in Denton where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, with a concentration in public relations, and a minor in Spanish. Prior to graduating, he participated in three faculty-led studies abroad -- one in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and two in Brno, Czech Republic. During the summer of 2007, he studied music business at New York University. As a native Texan, he has a keen interest in Texas politics and history.
