Robert Malcolm is an Associate at XLP Capital based out of the Boston office. He advises companies on technology strategy and performs fundamental research for XLP’s value and activist equity portfolios. Robert also manages the development of XLP’s proprietary data mining, analytics, and visualization toolsets.
Prior to XLP Robert was an Analyst
at 3LP Advisors, where he performed fundamental patent, technology, and investment analysis for clients in the food and nutrition space. During this time he led deal sourcing, outreach, and due diligence for a $100M corporate-led strategic venture fund. In a foreshadowing of his current shareholder activism work, he ran due diligence for an $80M private equity investment on behalf of a single family office that directly resulted in a change in executive leadership at the target company.
Robert has also worked on a number of data analytics and software development projects in Python, JavaScript, and Mathematica. In his advisory work he has authored a number of data scrapers for industrialized deal sourcing and has developed visualization tools for corporate knowledge management. On the investment side Robert led a team of analysts in an exploratory algorithmic trading analysis whose success contributed to the creation of Devonshire Capital Funds I.
Robert holds an A.B. in Physics from Princeton University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a certificate in Biophysics. His undergraduate research focused on the statistical physics of biological systems during embryonic development. During this time he completed a generous portion of the physics graduate curriculum as well as the program in applied mathematics. Robert is an internationally competitive foil fencer and, as captain, led the Princeton Varsity Fencing Team in its first national championship title since 1964. In addition to fencing, he enjoys rock climbing, Rubik’s cube speed solving, and classical guitar.
