Robert Leighton is Senior Vice President, Programming for Liberty Global plc, a position he has held since July 2007. In his current capacity, Mr. Leighton is responsible for establishing Liberty Global's content needs and negotiating channel carriage and program deals with worldwide and local program suppliers. Mr. Leighton is an executive
officer of Liberty Global and sits on the company's Executive Management Committee.
Mr. Leighton is a 30+ year veteran of the television industry. Prior to his current position at Liberty Global, he was a consultant on TV programming issues to Liberty Global and Comcast Cable.
Prior to this, Mr. Leighton spent seven years with Starz Encore, most recently as EVP, Programming where he was responsible for all programming functions for its Pay TV channels, including film acquisition, original programming, on-air promotion, and technical operations.
Mr. Leighton previously worked at HBO for 17 years in a variety of roles. From 1991-98, he was based in Europe and oversaw the development, launch, and operation of various pay and basic cable channels, primarily in Central Europe. Previous assignments at HBO in New York during the 1980s included Director of Programming, Cinemax and Director of Audience Research. Mr. Leighton began his television career at Young & Rubicam where he bought advertising time on both broadcast networks and the earliest ad-supported cable channels.
Mr. Leighton holds a Masters of Business Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College.
