Dr. Robert Charles Hook, Ph.D., Bob, is the Chairman of DFJ Esprit. He is an electronic and communications engineer by training and was a Director at Cambridge Consultants Limited (CCL) for ten years prior to founding Prelude in 1984.
Dr. Cook has been has recently been instrumental in the formation of a seed fund which will see DFJ Esprit and
CCL co-invest in CCL’s spin out activity going forward. He was a Managing Director at Prelude Ventures. Dr. Hook built prelude up into the United Kingdom’s leading early stage technology venture capital investment company, raising three funds, and led its merger with Cazenove Private Equity in 2006 to form Esprit.
With a portfolio largely in the physical sciences sector, he has played an instrumental role in the formation of a number of companies and serves as a Director of Prelude Trust, ZBD Displays Limited, m-spatial Limited, and Polatis Limited.
Dr. Hook was a Founding Member of the European Venture Capital Association High Tech Committee and also a past member of the British Venture Capital Association High Tech Committee.
He holds a Ph.D. and is a Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (MIEEE).
