Robert Hellgren is the son of Bert Hellgren and Gunilla Hellgren. The father was self-employed in Stockholm and the mother worked in healthcare. He is the younger brother of Mikael Hellgren, Helene Hanssens-Olsson and Karina Sanzobar. He grew up to
the age of 19 in Kista in Stockholm and then in Vasastan. Hellgren was educated from Kungsholmen's gymnasium (1989-1991), and then went to Stockholm University (1991-1994) and studied history, economic history and business administration. During his studies, Hellgren worked at Aros Fondkommission and Montagu Fondkommission with stock trading.
