A 20+ year tech product marketing executive, Halligan has a consistent, multi-company record of delivering successful, disruptive product-market strategy and business growth. He has deep experience in smart, secure connected hardware-software-cloud (IoT) solutions for automation, audio-video, mobility, and security around identity, devices and
content. An expert in multi-channel productization and full-stack integrated marketing, he successfully launched hundreds of technology products globally over his career. His breadth spans both in consumer, and enterprise markets and includes BtoB, BtoBtoC, BtoC model’s and various subscription and cloud service offerings. He has experience directly managing a P&L, running software / cloud engineering teams and leading global sales teams. But at his core he is a business and product strategist and marketer.
Halligan is CMO Executive in Residence and Advisor at Piedmont Partners Ventures, where he participates in the IoT, AI/M2M, Connected Solutions practice.
Most recently Halligan was Group VP of Strategy & Marketing at Nortek, Inc. (NASDAQ NTK). During his tenure he drove all corporate, product, channel marketing for the Company’s largest TECH division. His work included re-positioning & rebranded the division around smart/IoT control and automation, for tighter synergy with parent stock (NASDAQ: NTK) & to drive enhanced value perception in public market and in channels. In addition, he re-aligned product roadmaps, go-to-market strategy & rebranded product lines to enhance cross-sell in all channels. Categories include: Smart Home, Health Wearables, Commercial Access Control / Identity Mngmt, Commercial Video Conversion /Scaling, Wired/wireless audio, natural language processing /voice, others. During his tenure, the division saw dramatic growth: +36% revenue, +28% profit, from $265M rev 2013 to $360M rev 2016.
Prior to Nortek, Halligan held the position of GM, VP of Product, Marketing and Sales for Syncables, where he was hired to drive a full business pivot. This work included a business SWOT audit, market opportunity identification, M&A / tech strategy & platform re-architecture, revised channel / SAAS strategy, 3-year business plan, and an exit strategy. He pitched - closed the Company’s board of directors on a revised investment strategy and business plan, and then implemented. He drove the scaling of the business materially, closing strategic business with Dell, HP, Asus and Nokia, Motorola, ATT, as well as partnerships with Intel, Broadcom, NXP and Microsoft. The product solution included software / cloud architecture for syncing and streaming of data, media between computers, mobile phones and the cloud. Halligan successfully closed acquisition of Syncables in 2012 by SMedio- a Japanese based technology company – for a material price over revenues and investments.
Halligan also held the position of VP Global Marketing & Ecommerce at Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC), where he Led global product marketing for Sonic’s 3 divisions (Pro AV, Advanced Video Authoring, Consumer CD/DVD burning). During his tenure he developed strategies to more fully leverage user acquisition /monetization - upgrades - of PC OEM preinstall software (Dell, HP,+), and more effectively scale the organization. This work ended up delivering growth: from $32M to $148M+with a 3-year CAGR of 66% for revenue, 77% for profit.
He also held various other executive positions at software companies, and early in his career began at large and boutique advertising and marketing agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area.
With a BA in Communications, Halligan also has a dual minor emphasis in Economics and Business from St. Mary’s College of California. A San Francisco native, he lives in Marin County with three children. His passion after his family, is music and cooking - either slow barbeque smoke cooking or caste iron recipes.
