Richard Simpson is currently a Senior Vice President and Operational Risk Executive for Information Technology at BB&T Bank. He has been in this role since September, 2013. Richard's area of focus is on IT risk management from an enterprise governance perspective. Prior to this role Richard was SVP and an Operational Risk Executive at Bank
of America from June, 2010 through August, 2013. In this role he helped lead successful efforts to deploy a global operational risk framework across 24 countries.
Prior to joining Bank of America Richard was with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where he worked from April, 2007 until June, 2010. At the Federal Reserve Richard was a member of the Risk & Policy team, serving as a Senior Examiner for Large Banks and as a Federal Reserve system-wide IT/Operational Risk Coordinator. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Richard spent more than 21 years in a variety of senior technology management roles at Bank of America, including leading major bank mergers of technology services, heading up all US data centers and networks, and managing all mobile, desktop and intranet technology.
Richard is a member of the Risk Management Association (RMA) and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). His active ISACA professional certifications include CRISC - Risk and Information Systems Control, CISA - Information Systems Auditor, and CGEIT - Governance of Enterprise Information Technology. Richard is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina, with a degree in Management and an MBA.
