Ralph Chami is currently Assistant Director and Chief of Financial Policies Division, Institute for Capacity Development at The International Monetary Fund. Ralph has recently co-founded two entities Rebalance Earth and Blue Green Future that are engaged in realizing the value of the natural world to our well-being and integrating it into our
economic system. He has co-authored several groundbreaking publications that value the carbon sequestration service of keystone species such as the great whales and forest elephants. His work on valuing natural capital has been featured in National Geographic, Financial Times, Washington Post, and WEF, among others. He is a fragile states expert and his new book “Macroeconomic Policy in Fragile States,” was recently published by Oxford University Press. Ralph is the recipient of several awards, including the 2014 IMF Operational Excellence for his work on fragile states. Before joining the IMF in 1999, Ralph was on the faculty of Finance, Mendoza Business School, Notre Dame University, USA. He has also consulted for the World Bank and for the private sector in the US. He is the author of several publications in peer reviewed journals on remittances, banking, and financial markets. Ralph holds a BS from the American University of Beirut, an MBA in finance and statistics from The University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in economics from The Johns Hopkins University.
