Dr. Qipei (Gavin) Mei is the co-founder and CTO of CityScan Technologies Inc. He is in charge of the development of the core technology. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta (UofA).
His research mainly focuses on advanced sensing and monitoring technologies and
their applications in creating future smart infrastructure and building systems. He has considerable research experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision to infrastructure management. He holds a PhD degree in Structural Engineering at the University of Alberta and an MSc degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning earned from Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States. During his doctoral studies in structural engineering at the UofA, he developed a variety of technologies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure management, including a crowdsourcing-based system for monitoring and managing transportation infrastructures, such as roads and bridges, via moving vehicles. This work has resulted in the publication of more than 20 papers in well-reputed journals and conferences and is being commercialized.
