Phil Howson is a Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Iona Mind. Phil previously worked at Y Combinator as a S21 Batch. He attended Y Combinator and Imperial College London.
I graduated from Imperial College London in 2004, where I did a BEng in Computing. During my time at Imperial I won a number of academic awards for achieving the highest
mark in my year, my group project and my individual project. Additionally the Institute of Electrical Engineers awarded me the title of Best IT Student 2004. I then worked at Morgan Stanley in the technology division on systems for Algorithmic trading, specifically automated proprietary trading strategies in Fixed Income securities. After Morgan Stanley and joined UBS on their Equity Smart execution team, and later moved to a UBS Prop trading desk specialising in algorithmic proprietary trading strategies. Unfortunately this desk was closed in 2007, so I moved to Barclays Capital on the Barclays Analytical Trading Systems (BATS) team, once again looking at automated fixed income trading.
I most recently worked at GSA Capital, an quantitative hedge fund as one of the first members of the automated FX trading team which spun out to form XTX Markets, where I was a partner. I retired from XTX Markets in April 2016.
