Mr. Mraz is an accomplished serial entrepreneur and focuses on Healthcare companies in his work with Point Judith. Mr. Mraz has been active in the medical device and life sciences industry for nearly 25 years – in companies large and small (mostly as a serial entrepreneur), both venture backed and privately funded – with roles in executive
management (10 years as CEO), strategy, product development, marketing, sales management and business development – all on a global basis.
Mr. Mraz is the founder and managing partner of OnPoint Advisors, LLC, a business strategy and leadership consulting firm that provides tailored “CEO-in-Residence”℠ services and business development expertise to the life sciences industry.
Prior to founding OnPoint Advisors, Mr. Mraz served as president and CEO of Cerapedics, Inc. from late 2006-2013, a privately-held medical device company located outside Denver, CO. Cerapedics, a 2012 Colorado Companies To Watch (COCTW) award winner, is developing and commercializing biologic bone grafting products for the spine, trauma and orthopaedic markets based on its proprietary small-peptide technology. With Cerapedics, Mr. Mraz raised $52M in equity financing (OrbiMed Advisors, NGN Capital, MedImmune Ventures, and CVF LLC), completed a pivotal IDE spine fusion clinical trial in the US and commercialized its products in 25+ countries worldwide.
Previously, Mr. Mraz served as chairman and CEO of Angstrom Medica, Inc. (acquired by Pioneer Surgical Technology), a biomaterials and nanotechnology company engaged in the development of structural, calcium phosphate-based medical devices for the spinal, sports medicine and trauma markets.
Prior to Angstrom Medica, Mr. Mraz was a principal of Link Spine Group, Inc., a start-up medical device company that developed and commercialized the Charité Artificial Disc – the world’s first total disc replacement for the lumbar spine and the first to gain FDA approval in October 2004. There he served as vice president, worldwide marketing and international sales until its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson (DePuy Synthes) in June 2003.
Mr. Mraz was also a key management team member of three other early-stage medical device companies and his early experience includes positions at Figgie Medical Systems, Ortho Development Corporation (acquired by Japan MDM) and Marlow Surgical Technologies, Inc. (acquired by Cooper Surgical) as well as DePuy, Inc. (where he began his professional career in Warsaw, IN) and DePuy Spine (formerly AcroMed Corporation) – both acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 1998.
From 2005–2012, Mr. Mraz served as a director of superDimension, Ltd. (Herzliya, ISRAEL and Plymouth, MN), an emerging world leader in the minimally-invasive diagnosis and treatment of lung disease, until its acquisition by Covidien in May 2012.
Mr. Mraz was previously also a board member of Spirus Medical, Inc. (West Bridgewater, MA), a medical device company developing devices for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders (acquired by Olympus in July 2011).
Since 2008, Mr. Mraz has been an operating partner for Point Judith Capital (Boston, MA), a venture capital firm focused on early stage investing in the internet and mobile technology, healthcare technology and clean technology industries.
Separately, Mr. Mraz serves as a business advisor to MinInvasive, Ltd. (Magal, ISRAEL), a sports medicine company developing novel soft tissue repair solutions with its first application for rotator cuff repair.
Mr. Mraz received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette College (Easton, PA) and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering and biomechanics from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH). He holds eight US patents for various medical devices and technologies.
In 2010, Mr. Mraz founded the South Shore Life Science Consortium (www.SSLSC.com) whose membership now totals 100+ healthcare professionals. Mr. Mraz is an active member of the GLG Network and the Business Talent Group (BTG). He also enjoys executive coaching, working with fellow entrepreneurs and advising venture investors in the life sciences industry worldwide. Paul lives with his wife and daughters on the south shore of Boston, MA and claims to do some of his best thinking while running half-marathons.
