Patty is a woman with an international background having worked and lived in London, Geneva, New York, Toronto and South Africa. Most recently she was the Chief Operating Officer of a 2 billion euro founder run company that builds, owns and manages luxury retail villages in Europe and China. Her current focus: investing in entrepreneurs,
co-authoring a book on the role of corporate governance and culture in corporate failures and building a portfolio of NED (non-executive directors’) roles of PLCs (publicly listed companies).
Patty first began working with entrepreneurs in New York when she was given the opportunity to oversee the turnaround of a company placed in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. After a very exciting and successful experience, she returned to Toronto and made her first angel investment; a cloth diaper service. Having no children, at the time, and little to no experience changing nappies, it is fair to say the investment was made based on her euphoric experience in NYC and the then current environmental movement. The business quickly went to $1 million in revenue and helped consolidate the industry by buying smaller players that had sprung up. When the media focus on the environment slowed, followed by the declining enthusiasm in the cloth diaper industry, the business died. It was a good, albeit expensive, learning experience,
