Pablo has been involved in open source for 13 years and became interested in startups early on in his career. In 2007 he launched Insophia, his first startup and the first Uruguayan company to work exclusively with Python, a rare language by then which has since become quite popular in Uruguay due to the OLPC project.
Insophia started as a
general purpose software development company, with clients in Europe & US, and then specialized in web crawling following the popularity of Scrapy, a web crawling framework we created and open sourced while working on Insophia. Scrapy is now the de-facto web crawling framework for Python.
In 2010 he started Scrapinghub, a product company that grew over the previous success of Insophia, built around Scrapy and dedicated exclusively to web crawling solutions, including professional services and scalable platforms to run web crawlers.
During his last 4 years he has been working on coordinating the open source development of Scrapy and scaling Scrapinghub, from a 3 men company to a staff of 70.
