Michael Witbrock leads the AI Reasoning Lab at IBM Research. Previously he was Vice President for Research at Cycorp Inc, and CEO of Cycorp Europe. He directs publicly and private research projects in the areas of machine learning and knowledge acquisition, natural language processing and machine reading, and ontology evolution. In Europe, he
leads a key contributor to the LarKC project which is developing a platform for web scale inference. Michael holds a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon, and a BSc (Hons 1) in Psychology from the University of Otago. Before joining Cycorp, he was Principal Scientist at Lycos, and a Research Scientist at Just System Pittsburgh Research Center.
