Michael Hales has served for the past 12 years under the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) International Affairs directorate. During this time, Michael Hales specialized in shaping NGA’s policies and partnerships to better utilize commercial remote sensing platforms and non-US sources of GEOINT. In 2013, Michael Hales
received the NGA Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for advancing NGA's international partnerships using a results-driven approach. Michael Hales is currently stationed in Europe supporting a key multinational partnership for NGA. Prior to working at NGA, Michael Hales was a Branch Chief at the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, where he led and managed international satellite cooperation efforts between 2002-2006. For part of this time, Michael Hales was also the Chief of the U.S. Commercial Remote Sensing regulatory program. Michael Hales also served as an international desk officer at the White House from 1997-2002 where he represented a U.S. environmental science initiative involving more than 30 countries. Michael Hales graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a MSc in Environmental Science.
