Michael Smith has over 25 years of experience in the mechanical field as a contactor and mechanical engineer. Michael is a licensed Professional Engineer in over 35 states and is a LEED accredited professional. After graduation from Mississippi State University in 1994, Michael worked for a mechanical contractor responsible for designing turnkey
mechanical projects as well as estimating and managing design-bid-build projects. This provided valuable practical experience in the building industry as he transitioned to a consulting engineer running a satellite office in Starkville, Mississippi. In 2000, Michael moved to Texas and started working in Dallas for a consulting engineering company. During that time he worked on several high profile projects in Dallas including the first LEED building in Dallas, Jack Evans Police Headquarters and the DFW Terminal D project. In 2003, Michael created MD Engineering to provide MEP design services to architects and public and private sector clients. While under Michael’s leadership, MD Engineering has become known as one of the leading firms for MEP in jails and fire stations around Texas.
