Michael Serruya has been in the franchising and consumer products business for over 26 years. In 1986, Michael Serruya and his brothers founded Yogen Früz® and have built the brand to over 1400 locations, with operations in over 42 countries around the world.
Currently, Michael Serruya serves as the Chairman and CEO of Kahala Brands. Previously,
he acted as President, CEO and Chairman of CoolBrands International Inc., until the time of the sale of the Company. As part of Mr. Serruya’s responsibilities, he oversaw and managed the manufacturing and frozen DSD (Direct Store Delivery) network. CoolBrands owned the second largest frozen dessert and novelties plant in the United States, as well as the second largest frozen DSD system in the country. CoolBrand’s frozen dessert business consisted of such notable national brands as Eskimo Pie®, Breyers® ice cream, Weight Watchers®, Tropicana®, Godiva®, Yoplait®, Betty Crocker® and Welch’s®.
Michael Serruya is currently involved with a number of retail brands ranging in different sectors from food to apparel, as well as a number of development projects. He and his family were the largest single investors in Jamba Juice®, a 900 store retail chain located throughout the United States, where Michael Serruya previously sat on the Board of Directors.
Over the years Michael Serruya and his brothers have been recognized for their entrepreneurial vision, by receiving the Ernst and Young® “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in Canada. As well as, Canada’s “Top 40 under 40” award. Michael Serruya and his brothers previously received “Operators of the Year”, presented by FoodService and Hospitality Magazine in Canada.
Today, as Kahala Brands’ Chairman and CEO, Michael Serruya leads the company to its vision of domestic and international growth, all while staying true to the number one goal – that all franchisees enjoy the success of entrepreneurship while building world-class brands, revolutionizing industries and delivering exceptional customer service.
