Primary care of the pediatric age-group is an essential part of civilization. As a physician trained extensively in pediatric care, I have dedicated every encounter not just to the alleviation of disease and suffering, but also to the education of patients and families about healthy lifestyles. This includes simple adjustments in lifestyle that
help children stay healthy or get on the path to a healthy life. In my career which has spanned more than 18 years I have developed interest in several areas on healthcare. My early research has been on sickle cell disease, a genetic condition found all over the world, but more predominant in people of African descent. I continue to chair the Sickle Cell Disease Advocates of Minnesota advocacy group. I have worked with hospital staff towards "Baby Friendly" status and breastfeeding support in Minnesota. I also co-founded the Goodhue-Wabasha-Pierce Counties Breastfeeding Coalition in 2012. My more recent efforts have been in the area of Obesity Medicine. I am an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and an ardent advocate of obesity prevention in our communities. I am a committee member of the current State Health Improvement Program (SHIP) for Goodhue County. My career goals include alleviating suffering of children with chronic illnesses including sickle cell disease and obesity through better understanding of these conditions, advocating more result-oriented interventions, clinical and laboratory research and sensible community and individual interventions that strengthen our children and help them build healthy lifelong habits.
