Michael is Senior Vice President of Global Philanthropy with CCS, a 65 year old international fundraising and philanthropy consulting firm, with over 200 employees across the US, Canada and Europe. Michael has served in various leadership positions in the international philanthropy arena, and most recently served as the Deputy Executive Director
for the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
Prior to this position he was Deputy Director for Global Health Policy and Advocacy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he managed portfolios spanning government relations and issue advocacy, while also spearheading a new "Emerging Donors" initiative, intended to cultivate major and new philanthropic resources and partnerships for global issues. Michael also served for many years as the Senior Vice President at the United Nations Foundation, where he institutionalized an organization-wide partnership approach to generate additional financial and other support for UN causes.
Michael currently serves on a number of other non-profit Boards and committees, including, Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria (member of Executive Committee), GAIN USA, MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, The Global Philanthropy Forum Steering Committee (for ten years); and Refugees International In 2010 Michael published a chapter titled, “Global Philanthropy in the Era of Turner & Gates: Collaboration, Scale and Leverage Re-imagined,” in a book of essays titled, “Global Philanthropy.” Michael holds an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany, a law degree from Pace University, and resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and daughter.
