Michael Latimer joined OMERS in 1997, and has more than 40 years of investment experience. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in April 2014, and has responsibility for the overall leadership and performance of the enterprise including pension administration, investment activities, and the execution of its strategic plan.His
focus as CEO is on ensuring the people who serve our communities are able to retire with confidence that their pensions are secure and sustainable over the long term.
Mr. Latimer previously served as Chief Investment Officer of OMERS, a role that included full accountability for the strategic, operational and financial leadership of the organization’s investment activities. He has also served as President and CEO of OMERS real estate investment arm, Oxford Properties Group.
Mr. Latimer’s corporate career spans both the private and public markets, commencing with the corporate office of George Weston Limited, followed by Nu-West Development Corporation, Canderel Limited, TrizecHahn Limited, OMERS Realty Corporation, Borealis Capital Corporation and Primaris Retail REIT. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from McMaster University, and serves on its Board of Governors.In 2012 and 2013, Mr. Latimer was recognized as one of the world’s most influential asset owners globally by Asset International’s Chief Investment Officer Magazine.
He is a former Chair and board member of the Real Property Association of Canada (REALpac), and former real estate and infrastructure advisory board member at the Schulich School of Business at York University.Mr. Latimer’s other achievements include past roles as President and Chief Executive Officer of the 1997 Special Olympics World Winter Games, Chairman of the Sports Celebrities Festival, and Honourary Board of the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
