Mike migrated Conversant's hourly batch log collection process to Flume flows sustaining over 1.5 million logs lines per second. He has subsequently trained
the rest of the Data Team on Flume customization and configurations. At BigDataEverywhere (Chicago 2014) he presented a retrospective on migrating Conversant's log collection to Flume. Subsequently, Mike was a reviewer of "Apache Flume: Distrubuted Log Collection for Hadoop" (Second Edition).
After the book's release Flume 1.6 was released with support for Kafka. Having evolved Conversant's data collection process to include Kafka and Camus, Mike is now training the team on the how to integrate Kafka and Camus into the data collection process and the benefits of doing so.
