Dr. Michael Ibara has over 20 years’ experience in clinical research and development, where he works at the interface of digital health technologies, health care and industry. Most recently, Ibara was head of digital health care for CDISC, and previously he held several innovation roles at Pfizer, leading implementations of global systems and

large-scale technologies.

Ibara pioneered research on the implications of digitized health care data on pharmacovigilance practice and drug safety, and he designed and led the ASTER project, which used CDISC Healthcare Link standards and was the first time adverse events were retrieved directly from an electronic health record and delivered to the FDA. His interests include regulatory and policy implications for digital health care, exploring the factors needed to allow interoperability of health care data for all stakeholders. His current work includes an FDA project to harmonize common data models focused on a pharmacovigilance use case. He received his Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan and completed a fellowship in drug research and development with Burroughs Wellcome, Inc. and the University of North Carolina.
