Michael Happell has been a Partner with PwC for over 20 years. He is currently the Global Relationship Partner for BHP Billiton and Chairman of the Australian Firm's Board of Partners. Previous leadership positions that Michael has held with the firm include National Energy, Mining and Utilities Industry Leader (2008-2012), National Tax and
Legal Markets Leader (2005-2008) and Global Transfer Pricing Leader (1999-2004).
Prior to taking on his current roles, Michael's professional focus was tax law, specifically transfer pricing. He started the Australian Firm's Transfer Pricing practice and was regularly named in the International Tax Review Top Tax Advisors Survey as one of Australia's top tax advisors. He has also been named as a Leading Transfer Pricing Advisor in Euromoney's Best of the Best global tax advisors.
Michael has Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce degrees (Melbourne University) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Outside of work he is a Director and Treasurer of the Melbourne Cricket Club (responsible for managing the Melbourne Cricket Ground). He is also a Director and Chair of Finance, Audit and Risk of Breast Cancer Network Australia and a School Council Member and Chair of Risk at Scotch College, Melbourne. Former Directorships include Lauriston Girl's School and the Royal Melbourne Tennis Club.
