Micha Abeles M.D. is a dedicated rheumatologist based in Meriden, Connecticut. With over four decades of experience and dozens of publications, papers, book chapters and editorials in the field, Micha is a highly regarded medical professional and is a respected mentor to doctors all over the United States.
Micha Abeles M.D. is board-certified in
both internal medicine and rheumatology in Connecticut, New York and Virginia. After completing his medical residency with the State University of New York at Buffalo, Micha received his internal medicine certification in 1974. From there, Micha served as a major and chief of the outpatient department at Fort. Monroe Virginia U.S. Army base for two years. With much recognition and praise for his outstanding clinical skills and his ability to boost moral in the unit, Micha Abeles was inspired to further pursue his career in the medical field. He took a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Connecticut Health Center, and earned his rheumatology certification in 1978.
Since then, Micha Abeles M.D. has made a reputation for himself by becoming a groundbreaking researcher for arthritis, lupus, gout, fibromyalgia. He oversaw numerous clinical trials leading to the development of Humira and Enbrel, which are two significant arthritis medications that are still in use today. Micha has also spearheaded and participated in dozens of arthritis research studies that were eventually published. A few notable articles include “The treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with gold,” “Rheumatoid markers in the absence of arthritis,” and “The coexistence of rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report and review of the literature.”
In addition, Micha Abeles M.D. was able to conduct extensive original research on fibromyalgia. He laid the groundwork for the disease by conducting the first study that fully defined fibromyalgia, and was the co-author of a criteria paper titled “Fibromyalgia: Syndrome definition, measures and criteria items.”
Over the course of his career, Micha Abeles M.D. also studied lyme disease, myositis, vasculitis, and polymyalgia rheumatica. To stay current in his field, Micha belongs to the American College of Rheumatology, which is a professional organization that represents rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals around the world, and sits on the Connecticut Rheumatology Association Board of Directors.
Micha Abeles M.D. completed his Bachelor of Arts degree and Cornell University. He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
