CEO and General Manager of Leonardo S.p.A. from may 2014 to may 2017. Under his guidance, the Group’s restructuring was launched, culminating in January 2016 with the creation of “One Company”, which was carried out through merger operations for the incorporation of OTO Melara and WASS into Leonardo and the absorption of the activities carried out
by AgustaWestland, Alenia Aermacchi and Selex ES. At the same time, the company’s rebranding was launched, and concluded with the company changing definitively its name from Finmeccanica to Leonardo in 2017.
Born in Rimini in 1953, he earned an honors degree in Electrotechnical Engineering from the University of Bologna in 1977. After winning a public competition for a managerial role, the following year he began working at Ferrovie dello Stato S.p.A. There he held numerous roles within the company, including Managing Director of the Technological Development Division (1993); CEO of Metropolis S.p.a., the FS real estate company (1994); and Director of the “Rolling Stock and Locomotion” strategy business sector (1996). In 2001, he became Chief Executive Officer of RFI, and five years later was appointed CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane S.p.a. The Italian High Speed Rail and the Frecciarossa are just two of the numerous projects brought to completion in his eight-year leadership, during which the Group achieved the first consolidated profit in its history, an achievement confirmed in the five years that followed.
After his appointment in Leonardo, he became Honorary Chairman of AIAD in July 2014 and President of ASD in March 2015. In September 2015, he was appointed Co-Chairman of the Italy-Japan Business Group. He is also member of the General Council of Confindustria, the Confindustria European Technical Group and the General Council of Unindustria of Rome and Lazio. Furthermore, he is President of the Italian FS Foundation, Chairman of the Fondazione Ricerca & Imprenditorialità and member of Comitato Leonardo’s Executive Board.
