Previously a resident of Maryland, Dr. Mark Klinedinst serves as an emeritus professor of economics at Hattiesburg, MS’s University of Southern Mississippi. He has over 25 years of experience teaching within the school’s Department of Economics, Finance, and International Business. From 2003 to 2005, he also served as chair of the department.
Additionally, Dr. Mark Klinedinst is the editor of the recently published book Katrina Ten Years After, which is accessible online at www.katrinatenyearsafter.com.
Dr. Klinedinst’s book examines the devastation wreaked by the destructive 2005 hurricane, as well as its aftermath and the rebuilding period. Combining photographs, personal accounts, and socioeconomic analysis, the book seeks to help readers understand the conflicts over the use of aid funds that arose between ethnic and class groups. Dr. Klinedinst also places the socioeconomic struggle that followed Hurricane Katrina in the context of the BP oil spill, the Great Recession, and other forces that impacted recovery efforts.
Since moving from Maryland to Mississippi, Dr. Mark Klinedinst has maintained a strong presence in the Hattiesburg, MS, community. In addition to serving on the board of directors of the local farmers’ market, he has participated with Parkway Heights United Methodist Church’s Environmental Stewardship Team.
